Writing Right: A Story About Dysgraphia written by Cassandra Baker

Writing Right is an illustrated children's book whose main character is Noah, a third grade boy with dysgraphia. Many people have never heard of dysgraphia and that is one of the primary reasons for this book. Dysgraphia affects writing skills and can make learning very difficult. In this book, Noah learns to work through his struggles with dysgraphia through perseverance, help from his mom, computer resources, and occupational therapy. Through Noah’s story, the author hopes to shed some light on this lesser-known disability and aid those affected.

We Switched Careers! Alternative Licensure Teachers' Journeys to the Classroom

We Switched Careers! Alternative Licensure Teachers' Journeys to the Classroom edited by Mervyn J. Wighting, Ph.D.

This book comprises the stories of twelve journeys: the road traveled by former business people, members of the military, pastors, engineers and bankers all of whom responded to the calling to become a teacher. Its purpose is to inspire others who might be contemplating a similar journey in order to transition into teaching. Career Switchers are risk takers. In many instances they leave secure and well paid jobs in order to venture into the unknown world of education and they do this so that they can make a difference in the lives of children. They become students themselves to complete the coursework, they compete with all other candidates to get hired, and they subject themselves to the challenges of teaching instead of remaining in the comfort zone of their previous career. Each of the twelve chapters tells a unique story, and the reader can rest assured that everything in each chapter is absolutely true!

Autonomous and Self-Directed Learning

Our tenth release is Autonomous and Self-Directed Learning: Agentic Perspectives co-edited by Drs. Michael K. Ponton and Paul B. Carr.

For nearly two decades, Professors Michael K. Ponton and Paul B. Carr have formulated discussions of self-directed and autonomous learning by building upon the conceptual frameworks provided by Professors Emeriti Gary Confessore (learner autonomy and conation) and Albert Bandura (social cognitive theory, human agency, and self-efficacy). Using an agentic perspective of personal agency to describe learning, the agent as a learner engages in forethought to adopt goals of personal value and formulate learning plans; reacts to this ideation by enacting plans; reflects upon consequences and outcomes; and uses this acquired information to inform future learning plans. Their work and that with their colleagues has included both theoretical discussions and original research. This edited compendium, primarily consisting of previously published articles, is the result of those efforts.

Beyond the Firmament CoverOur first release is Beyond the Firmament: Understanding Science and the Theology of Creation by Gordon J. Glover, a well-researched and thought-provoking book from an impressive first-time author.

As debates within the Church over the scientific details of creation become more frequent, the experts seem to grow more entrenched while the rest of us only become more confused. Somewhere between the endless arguments over distant starlight and Carbon-14 dating, calculating the mathematical improbabilities of things that already exist, and parsing ancient Hebrew and Greek, somebody needs to ask the simple question: If 3,500 years of scientific progress can't help modern Christians figure out Genesis, then how could the ancient Israelites possibly have understood it so well? What secret did this newly liberated gaggle of Hebrew nomads take with them out of Egypt that holds the key to understanding God's telling of His own creation story?
